Our mission is to collect, preserve, interpret, and share the history and culture of Houston, Minnesota and surrounding area.
The Houston Area Museum is a newly formed non-profit organization established in January 2023. Our purpose is to not only preserve the building that we are in, but also to preserve the history and culture of the people and places in Houston, Minnesota and the surrounding area.
The Houston Area Museum is accepting monetary donations for various projects and expenses at the Museum. If you are so inclined please send your donations to: Houston Area Museum, PO Box 292, Houston, MN 55943. As a 501(c)(3) organization all donations are tax deductible, and a statement for your taxes will be sent to you. If you choose to use Venmo use the code LarryJ1953 to donate to our account. Since Venmo does not provide us with the donor’s address, if you wish to receive a tax deductible donation statement, you must send it to us at: director@houstonareamuseum.org. Of course, donations can be made in person when you visit the museum (or run into one of us on the street).
Thank you for your interest in the museum and your donation.
A huge “Thank You!” to those who have already donated items to include in the Houston Area Museum. We are still accepting things as the need for Houston related memorabilia never ends. Some of the materials we have already received include: objects from the Fire Department, Ambulance Department, & Police Department, military uniforms and artifacts, Houston business advertising items, etc., Houston souvenirs, the reception counter from the District Office at the high school, numerous school items, including HHS class composites from the 1940’s, bank equipment and furnishings, and the list goes on.
Before you discard items relating to Houston, as you do your spring cleaning, think of us at the Museum[Ma1] . Here your items will be preserved forever. Paper items or ephemera (such as programs from school or community plays, graduations, sporting events, etc., posters promoting local events, documents and family papers, letters, again, anything related to Houston and its people) will be housed in our Archives and available for viewing anytime.
Items we would like to have run the gamut from cheerleading outfits to an Ace Telephone Booth. Thank you for your support of this endeavor to keep Houston’s long and interesting history alive. If you have any questions email us at: director@houstonareamuseum.org
Museum memberships will be available to those who wish to join us in supporting our worthy endeavor.
